User FAQs

Where can I access my account settings​?

Head to ‘Settings’ via the top navigation bar.​

On your settings page, you’ll be able to:

  • Change your account password​
  • Change your account email​
  • See your usage history​

What’s the difference between Handshakes’ maps?

We have 4 map types:​

  1. A Radial map shows you past and present connections – direct and indirect – related to a single selected entity.​
  2. An Interconnection map shows you past and present, direct and indirect connections, between two or more entities.
  3. A Legal Beneficial Ownership (LBO) map shows you the ultimate owners of a company.
  4. An Investee Companies map shows you the companies owned by a person or a company. ​

Note: an “entity” can refer to either a person or company.

 

How do I generate a Radial or Interconnection map?

  1. On the search bar on the main landing page, select the relevant dataset.​

  2. Input your search subject’s name, ID number (if a person) or registration number (if a company).​
  3. ​Hit “enter” or click on the search button. ​
  4. ​Select the relevant entity/entities​
  5. ​Once all your search subjects are selected, you can go ahead to generate either a Radial map or Interconnection map.​
    Note: ​A Radial map is only available when a single entity is selected. To generate an Interconnection map, make sure 2 or more entities are selected.

 

How do I generate a Legal Beneficial Ownership map?

  1. Select ‘Legal Beneficial Ownership’ on the main landing page to navigate to its search page (look under first column, ‘Features’).​
  2. Select the relevant database and input your search subject’s name, ID number or registration number.
  3. ​Hit “enter” or click on the search button. ​
  4. ​Select the relevant entity/entities​ and generate the map.

How do I generate an Investee Companies map?

  1. Select ‘Investee Companies’ on the main landing page to navigate to its search page (look under first column, ‘Features’).​
  2. Select the relevant database and input your search subject’s name or registration number.
  3. ​Hit “enter” or click on the search button. ​
  4. ​Select the relevant entity or entities​ and generate the map.

 

Can I view the map in any other format?

Yes, you may choose to view the relationships in a table format, and even download the data as an excel file.​ Navigate there via the view panel located to the left of the map.

 

Am I able to ‘edit’ the map?

Yes, you may do any of the following:

  • Re-position the entity around the map canvas
    Left-click and drag the subject(s) to their desired position
  • Reset the layout of the map to its original state
    Right-click on any white space within the map canvas and select ‘Reset layout’
  • Hide any entities via the ‘Map’ tab
    This tab is located within the panel that sits on the map canvas’ right.
  • Expand your map
    Right click on any entity to see more connections within the same map.

 

Am I able to save my map(s)?

Yes, there are 3 ways you may do so:

  1. Save it as a PDF file, by selecting ‘Export as PDF’.
  2. Right click on any white space within the map canvas and select ‘Export Map View Information’. A PDF of your map, along with a rundown of the featured entities and connections in table view, will be generated.
  3. Save the map onto the app by clicking the ‘Save’ button located next to the ‘Sign out’ button. Thereafter, you may access your saved maps via the ‘My Maps’ feature.

Tip: We recommend saving maps as you go along, so you don’t lose precious work.
For security reasons, you will be automatically logged out if you are inactive for 15 minutes.​

 

Can I share my map(s)?

Yes, you may share maps with another Handshakes user. Simply go to the ‘Share Maps’ page via the main landing page, and type in their account email address.
Note: any of your private comments or notes will NOT be shared with the receiver.

 

What are the reports available on the app?

We have 7 report types, namely:​

  1. An Entity Profile Report shows you past and present connections – direct and indirect – related to a single selected entity.​
  2. An Entity Profile Report PRO comprehensive breakdown of an entity’s latest profile, key relationships and financial information. Applies to Malaysia dataset only.
  3. A Financial Profile Report includes a company’s most recent records of financial highlights, including profit and loss, cashflow and balance sheet items.​
  4. A RED List Report shows you an entity’s exposure to past regulatory actions in multiple jurisdictions.​
  5. An Entity Information Report outlines an entity’s financial highlights and direct relationships.
  6. A Registry Profile Report shows you a company’s most recent records of financial highlights, including profit and loss, cashflow and balance sheet items.
  7. A Map View Information Report is a PDF that captures your generated map, along with a rundown of the featured entities and connections in table view.

 

How do I generate a report?

There are 2 ways you may generate a report.

Method 1

  1. While in map view, right click on the relevant entity and select the relevant report.​

  2. Access your report(s) via the download panel, found via the blue download button on the top navigation bar.​


    Note: Your report will remain accessible via this download panel for 30 days.​

This method is relevant for:  Entity Profile Report​, Financial Profile Report, RED List Report and Entity Information Report​.

Method 2

  1. Navigate to the relevant report feature page via the main landing page (look under first column, ‘Features’).​
  2. Select the relevant database and input your search subject’s name, ID number or registration number.
  3. Hit “enter” or click on the search button. ​
  4. Select the relevant entity before generating the report.​
  5. Access your report(s) via the download panel, accessible via the blue download button on the top navigation bar.


    Note: Your report will remain accessible via this download panel for 30 days.​

This method is relevant for:  Entity Profile Report​, Entity Profile Report PRO, Registry Profile Report, Financial Profile Report and RED List Report.

 

What do ‘Recent Developments’ cover?

Our capital markets data coverage includes Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.​

These features aggregate and present recent capital markets updates across these jurisdictions.​

  • Recent Company Appointments capture recently disclosed company appointment changes.​
  • Recent Professional Appointments capture recent professional appointments by listed companies.​
  • Recent Regulatory Changes capture recent public actions disclosed by regulators.

 

How do I perform a procurement check?

Our Procurement Check feature allows you to see existing direct and indirect connections between two sets of entities.

  1. Navigate to the feature’s page via the main landing page (look under first column, ‘Features’).​
  2. If you have not already done so, do download the list templates and organise both lists accordingly.​
  3. Select the relevant dataset and click ‘Next’.​
  4. You’ll be brought to the next page. Here, check that the entities on your lists are correctly reflected, before selecting ‘Run procurement check’.​
  5. On the results page,  you can choose to either:​
    a) Download the PDF by selecting ‘Export to PDF’, or​
    b) View each connection discovered by clicking ’View map’

 

How do I set up alerts/flags?

Get notified on changes to any entity, when you set up an alert. Flagging an entity allows you to bookmark it and include private notes.

Method 1​

  1. Navigate to the alerts/flags page via the main landing page (look under third column, ‘My Account’)
  2. Click on the ‘add alert’ or ‘add flag’ button to search for entities
  3. Include private notes, and manage existing alerts/flags here

​Method 2​

  1. While in map view, right click on the relevant entity and select ‘Alert’​ or ‘Flag’

  2. Toggle to ‘List’ via the right tab section, where you’ll see your saved alerts/flags.​

 

I can’t find any answers here to my question, what can I do?

You may either:

  • Click ‘help’ on the bottom left of your app screen and log a ticket
  • Contact us directly at support@handshakes.com.sg stating your issue
  • Approach your Client Success Manager directly for help​
